Words can move mountains.
Laurie Griffin combines the power of the pen with the prowess of planning to help organizations tell their stories. Effective communication informs, motivates, and inspires people to help you move the mountains that matter in achieving your business goals.
So why work with Griffin Communications?

Combining the power of story and research.
My journalistic roots make me dig deeper. My agency background equips me to span wider. What does that mean? It means regardless of the hat I’m wearing, whether its writer, planner, graphic designer, media handler or cat herder, I work from the solid foundation of knowing the human story. It’s people who are at the root of every statistic, every barrier and every business dream. Blending solid research with the power of storytelling and persuasion, I help your message find its way to the right audience, using the right channels at the right time.

Clearing the path to your next summit.
Clarity of destination. Precision of path. Knowing your audience is the first step forward – it’s about knowing whose minds need to change, and what that shift will motivate them to do. It’s about channeling those actions in a direction that will advance your business goals.
Caring, curiosity, and contentiousness are the three C’s at the crux of a clear path and a strong plan. These lead to quality work, attention to detail, and strong results – the consistent qualities that make my products distinct.

Empowering you on the journey.
Whether you’re moving mountains or moving yourself over the mountain of business challenges, you will have what you need. I distinguish my communication plans from the rest by providing an empowering toolkit, equipping clients to execute their plan if they so choose.
Toolkits contain the templates, guidelines, tips, and whatever empowers you to execute it independently or with my support.
Receive a 360 view of your business landscape, top influencers and barriers, key messages and the tools you need to raise awareness, shift perceptions or grow visibility of your brand.
Hi! I’m Laurie.
I’m a communications consultant and professional storyteller with two decades of experience.
Distilling the dreams, drama, and brand DNA from a big sea of possibilities, I help organizations clarify and achieve their communciation goals.
I first cut my teeth in the journalism industry before moving into the agency world where I spent over a decade developing communication research, audits and strategic plans. I have also executed a range of plans and campaigns for energy companies, governments, think-tanks, logistics firms, pharma, agri-business and non-profit.
Serving clients in Alberta and BC, I am back and forth frequently between Calgary (where most of my clients are based) and Creston BC where I recently moved with my husband and three kids. Our new hybrid lifestyle merges white-collar service provision with blue zone living, enabling us to live a more intentional life, growing our own food and living closer to nature.

Announcement
I’ve expanded my communication consulting practice from Calgary into the Kootenay region and across Western Canada!

September 19/20 Announcement
At first, I didn’t know if I could pull it off.
But now, after three years of steady, continued success, I’m taking this opportunity to announce that I’ve expanded my communication consulting practice from Calgary into the Kootenay region and across Western Canada.
I’m also pleased to have been invited to speak alongside an amazing line up of thought leaders from across the Kootenays, assembled by the intrepid Lynn Hiscoe for the Kootenay Women in Business Conference on September 19/20!
The dream of being a city consultant in the heart of the Kootenays began three years ago, when remote consulting became more common… and so did evaluating life priorities (a pandemic might have spurred these trends along!).
Peter and I realized life was too short not to follow our dreams. We desired to live a more intentional life. We wanted to raise our three kids closer to nature in a more intimate community environment and relationship with our food supply. We wanted to grow things!
But I also wanted to continue my career serving large or complex clients – many of which hail from busy urban centres. Would I always be tethered to the office towers? Providing public relations services against a backdrop of remote rural living felt like a contradiction – a radical break from the standard. And the ultimate dream!
We decided to take the chance. We chose curiosity and adventure.
Three years ago we put down roots on nine beautiful acres. Today we’re growing and selling gourmet specialty mushrooms (lion’s mane, blue oysters), raising chickens and…. continuing to serve clients like never before!
Frequent trips to the big city are hardly a price to pay to deliver exciting communication projects, advancing causes and business dreams across a diversity of sectors; ghost-writing books; raising $25 million for a capital campaign; planning and executing media announcements and writing communication plans and stories from the serenity of our forest home.
I can finally announce our big move with confidence because it has been a success story not just for my career but for our family.
While I’ve crafted many stories of my clients over the years, it’s rare to share my own. I hope it can be an inspiration for others contemplating something different or unique.
My take is this: don’t settle for less. You never know the possibilities that lay ahead if you don’t jump in, take risks and expand your story.
On Sept 19/20 I can’t wait to share the stage with an inspiring group of businesswomen, to hear their stories and share the gems I’ve gathered from almost two decades of business storytelling. If you’re thinking of being in the Kootenay region, I’d love to see you there!
